The Week of the Psychotic Cardinal

I have been reading some articles on blogs they say you need to post at least three times a week. Since I started two bogs the same day that must mean, three each per week. I will endeavor to do two a week that will be a stretch; I am not keeping journal entrees that often.

Today one of the “Useless Facts of the Day” was: “Birds do not sing because they are happy. It is a territorial behavior.” Let me tell you about a camping trip Mario and I had several years ago. We call it the week of the psychotic cardinal.

We had some unfortunate experiences camping. The first trip in the middle of the night I was going to the out house and my path was crossed by a bear. The second trip was Hurricane Isabel, no matter how good the tent is it will not be water tight in a hurricane. The next trip was the one with the psychotic cardinal.  Any time we were both in the tent, we would here a clicking. It turned out the cardinal was attacking the side view mirrors. He saw himself and was competitor away from his mate on the nest. He was jealous, and very protective. By the end of the week we were no loner seen as a threat just our car’s mirrors and anything else reflective, like the windshield. Toward the end of the week we saw how brazen he could be. The ranger was parked with his windows open, and since he was away from the truck, the bird flew in and attacked his rear view mirror.
