I admit it has been a while since I have written anything in either blog. If I had been smart I would not have started two Blogs at once. For the most part I will be writing in Dragonfly’s Journey http://acagnello.wordpress.com/ (New general topics) instead of Time Spent With God on scripture starting with healing scriptures http://annetteagnello.wordpress.com/ (Scripture study). For the time being I am combining them; eventually I will be post in both again. I have been reading a lot about bloging and all the articles suggest posting at least three times a week. I can’t seem to get three done let alone six. So today is a new beginning. Dragonfly’s journey was to be articles stories and quotes. Now it will be a little of everything.

Since both the scriptural and secular will be combined I will start talking about my current writing project. I am working on a book on journaling. I am currently on Chapter 6 about dreams. The problem I have had is I rarely dream. This morning during my morning Bible reading God brought to mind a dream I had not only had several years ago bur had written about. When you are writing about journaling you have to have actually journaled what you are writing about.

I have a question for you, dear readers have any of you ever written about dreams in your journals, or blogs?

One of the writing groups had a prompt which reminded me of something that happened with my father. I don’t even remember exactly where it came from but I remember what it made me think of. I had found a picture about a month ago of an old pressure cooker that looked exactly like mother’s old pressure cooker. After mother was in the hospital following her stroke I was cooking dad a pot roast in the pressure cooker.

As usual dad was out at his boat. He was a big time fisherman mainly on Stanton River down near the Virginia, North Carolina border. For the first ten years of his lodge’s annual fish fry he caught enough fish to feed over 200 people. It was his pleasure to have an excuse to go fishing a lot all summer to be able to provide fish for his lodge’s fish fry. He was always inventing a way to make his fishing trips better, and safer. He could drop and raise anchors at both ends of the boat from one end; along with other time and labor saving devices he invented. He was always tinkering with one idea or another. If you wanted to find him the first place to look was the boat.

That is where I found him when the roast was ready. I stepped out on the porch and told him, “The roast is ready; we can eat as soon as the pressure goes down.” I thought he understood me and went about my business. In a few seconds I heard a boom. Dad’s hearing was not that good apparently, he only heard the first part and came right in and opened the pressure cooker. I rushed downstairs and found most of the roast in the hallway at the foot of the steps. The carrots were stuck to the ceiling hanging like stalactites. The potatoes were wherever they landed after bouncing off the ceiling they were to heavy to hang off the ceiling.

I have been reading some articles on blogs they say you need to post at least three times a week. Since I started two bogs the same day that must mean, three each per week. I will endeavor to do two a week that will be a stretch; I am not keeping journal entrees that often.

Today one of the “Useless Facts of the Day” was: “Birds do not sing because they are happy. It is a territorial behavior.” Let me tell you about a camping trip Mario and I had several years ago. We call it the week of the psychotic cardinal.

We had some unfortunate experiences camping. The first trip in the middle of the night I was going to the out house and my path was crossed by a bear. The second trip was Hurricane Isabel, no matter how good the tent is it will not be water tight in a hurricane. The next trip was the one with the psychotic cardinal. Any time we were both in the tent, we would here a clicking. It turned out the cardinal was attacking the side view mirrors. He saw himself and was competitor away from his mate on the nest. He was jealous, and very protective. By the end of the week we were no loner seen as a threat just our car’s mirrors and anything else reflective, like the windshield. Toward the end of the week we saw how brazen he could be. The ranger was parked with his windows open, and since he was away from the truck, the bird flew in and attacked his rear view mirror.

Yesterday, I wanted to blog the difference between two wonderful pastors definitions of the same word and where it took them. One is pastor, Philip W. from Bread of Life Church which I attended throughout the 1990’s. The other is my current pastor Kevin P. from Pine Grove Assembly of God which he has pastured for the last five months. Both preached on Philippians and keyed up on the same word “sincere”

In the ten years I was at Bread of Life I heard Pastor Phil define sincere a number of times as meaning “without wax.” He explained dishonest potters would cover flaws with wax to make them appear to be sound vessels. The buyers would take home an inferior piece of pottery thinking it was sound, only to find out they had been cheated.

Pastor Kevin defined sincere as meaning “examined in the sunlight and found to be pure.” In a way that definition could have been talking about making sure the potter was honest as well as Pastor Phil’s definition did.

According to Webster’s 1828 dictionary (which is the last completely Christian dictionary) has the definition “without wax” but it refers to pure honey. It also has “Being in reality what it appears to be; not feigned; not simulated; not assumed”

There are Many things in the Bible defined in more than one definition. Take the name Jacob sometimes it is defined as “supplanter” other times it is defined as “foot grabber.” My oldest brother was mad when I remarked his grandson’s name meant “supplanter” he had not heard that definition.

When I went to college I was to quote Jesse Duplantis, “I was lost as a goose in a fog.” Freshman year I had a brief romance, passed my classes, didn’t get to take any classes that really interested me. Instead, I had a lot of freshman level courses and nothing really on the topic I was studying for. Sophomore year I finally got to a class in the area I am came to study for I discovered I was pitiful at what I had seen as my grand calling. I was also discovering I was a “small fish in a big pond” as is often said. I guess I didn’t see that freshman year because I was in love. So I switched majors the first of many times. I had a lot of heartache going on that year. I considered suicide that year and had made the final plans, I was ready, but was tricked into promising a friend who was no longer in school I would wait for her visit. She had broken her leg, after all how long would it take for her leg to heal and her to come down?

Sometimes God has a sense of humor, he trapped me into making another promise, one I never intended to keep. Dan saw to it I was keeping it four days later. Somehow I was in the back seat of a car heading for St. Francis DeSales convent. Dan had engineered the trip and gotten a lot of people to write letters. On a sunny day I found myself in the convent garden with a bag of mail. One of the letters was from a girl named Joyce; she included a business card sized card that said, “You are a child of God … call home.” When I opened the letter the card flittered out and landed in the buttercups. When I read the card at first I thought it was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. Then, suddenly, it made sense. That is the day I actually accepted the Lord!

Today Pastor Kevin said, “It’s like seeing a beautiful deer coming across the field and a hunter comes out and shoot’s him.” That reminds me of something I had written about a deer years ago. Ironically it was in one of my first published articles. Back then I did not know enough to be careful about protecting my rights so I’m not sure if I even own it anymore.

The story of the deer was used as an example why one would be glad that they had a journal. I told about a deer that had come into our yard and was eating pears off the tree. I spoke of catching the moment in words and preserving the image for all time. I spoke of the beauty of the deer in great detail. I also told of his grace as he turned and ran when he noticed he had a human audience. I didn’t mention in that article that the deer had been a very bad guest in my parent’s orchard. That deer had taken one bite out of each pear to see if they were ripe I imagine. The pears were my father’s favorite fruit, that is why the tree was there in the first place. By biting the fruit the deer ruined it. We had no pears to can that year thanks to our beautiful, graceful visitor.

All my life there was always a watermelon in the refrigerator all summer until I married the first person I ever met that doesn’t like watermelon. It’s almost un-American not to like watermelon. My, honey-love, had a bad experience with watermelon on one of our first dates. I had bought a watermelon for desert because everyone likes watermelon. It had to have had the toughest rind of any melon I have ever seen. I couldn’t break the skin, so I asked Mario if he would cut it. Somehow he managed to cut himself . At first I didn’t know about it, he was to macho to tell me what had happened. The first I knew of it was when I saw blood dripping on the table. First aid can be a good way to bond with a relative stranger. After we got married Mario finally told me he didn’t like watermelon but by then we were living with his father and he loved watermelon so I was able to still have some in the house.

It has been a few days a few days since I last wrote here. I did start two blogs the same day and have had more incentive to write in the other one. It is about spiritual matters and this is the secular blog.

The family channel just started playing “Sound Of Music”. I have seen it on television a lot of times but never in a theater. My youngest brother went to see it over and over again. His excuse was to learn the song “Climb Every Mountain”. That seems strange today but the movie came out in 1965, then there were very few other ways to hear a song form a new movie. New records usually came out after a movie was out of the theater. So He could actually have been going to the movie over and over to learn the song. I like a lot of Julie Andrews movies myself. I saw “Princes Diaries 2 The Royal Engagement” last week the years have been very kind to her.

My, Mario, always hated journaling he recently has turned the corner and is actually enjoying it. I have journaled since highschool. And for the first two years of my marriage didn’t accept he didn’t journal. I am writing a book on journaling from a Christian perspective. I edit his sermons and he does the same for my writing. Six chapters in he still had no interest in keeping a journal. Unfortunately for him the school he is attending to get the next level of his ministerial credentials is once again is demanding journaling. He has finally come to an understanding of journaling and this morning he was actually preaching to me the benefits of keeping a journal.

I have been collecting quotes and writing prompts for almost as long as I have been keeping journals. It is hard to believe how many prompts I have collected and how few I have actually used. My dreams are big but my follow through… well.

A while ago I started working on a book I put it aside for a while but I’m back. I’m restarting the research on the book and hanging my thoughts into the book. It is time to work on the book again.

I am now using two quotes in my signature Let me tell you about them. The first comes from a book that was a book on one of my collage room-mates had on her desk in the original French also in Spanish, German, and fortunately English. I read the book and found some profound words hiding in the fiction.

The second is a quote from an interview on u-tube with Rev Canon Andrew White an Anglican pastor, and leader the only one still in Iran. I have heard him speak twice he is a remarkable man he faced the dangers of a war zone. Setup a church in one of Saddam Hausen’s old palaces. at the moment he is a personal hero of mine right now. He has MS as I do and has been doing well in spite of it for some time now. I’m sure he takes care of himself there are medicines you have to stay on with MS but with all his work in a war zone he has taken more risks than I can begin to imagine.

man with one hand

My pastor pulled out a very old song, “Come and Dine” that reminded me of a very old couple. I heard the song every couple of months. Louise would sing it as a solo. They were an interesting pair. They were in their seventies, but they were also newlyweds. They were both grandparents in their own right.

The most interesting thing about them was Bill was missing a hand. You should have seen the visitors who came in when they saw him passing the collection plate. People expect to see people with two hands. Since he had lost his hand as a child he had learned how to do everything we know how to do with two hands. He was a mechanic with a large following. The only time I went to his shop he was working on a piston which he had resting on the nub. I ended up not getting him to fix the car, he had people lined that I would be waiting to long for him to get to my car.

He also re strung his guitar with all the strings in reverse so he could finger the cords with the hand that had fingers. He fixed something to hold a guitar pick on the nub at the exact angle needed to strum the guitar.

I guess I shows necessity is the mother of invention. I still wonder about something Louise said, I competed something that would not seen possible and she said. “You should see him tie his shoes.” I don’t know how one could tie their shoes with only one hand.

Speaking of one hand is rather heartbreaking. A minister came through and prophesied, “Get a new glove and God will fill it.” That would have been a creative miracle. The poor man didn’t see it. The hardware had given him a whole display of gloves for just the one hand he had. He had plenty of gloves for the hand he had but that way not what had been said. He needed a glove for the hand he did not have, not another glove for his existing hand.

Dragonfly

I have started several blogs some I lost because I was not signed in correctly when I signed up originally the double t’s in my name were tippled, who knew. I no longer let the computer leave me signed in, now I sign in every time so I know right away if there’s a problem. And do not invest long periods of time working on a blog only to find I suddenly cannot get back to the blog I created. I made a blog that will be for religious purposes I was recently diagnosed with MS so I am doing a lot of study with healing scriptures. The address for that blog is: http://onceagainagain.blogspot.com/ This on the other hand will be something for my writing and I hope to finally be able to add pictures I never knew how to before.

I had started a websight thinking I would put my older writings online but I discovered they could not be brought up because I had done the work on WordPerfect. What was once the gold standard for word processors now is an also ran used only be dinosaurs like me.

What I plan for this one to have prompts both answered and unanswered and perhaps some daily type entries. Those generally are done on paper.

Now to explain the name. Dragonflies are things that should not exist. They are not supposed to be able to fly but they can not only fly but they can hover, and go in reverse. That is real flexibility I guess that is what I most want from a sight. I still don’t understand the difference between blogs and websights.
